A Manchester institution, reimagined.
Discover how Manchester’s iconic New Century Kitchen uses Toast’s all-in-one POS platform to manage multiple vendors, streamline operations, and make real-time, data-driven decisions across its vibrant food and music venue.

New Century Kitchen is more than just a food hall—it’s a multi-faceted venue that pays homage to its history while embracing the future. The space, which once hosted Jimi Hendrix, now supports up-and-coming Manchester artists and serves as a hub for the city’s music and food scene. General Manager Matt is in charge of everything from day-to-day operations to food quality and marketing, and he needed a technology partner that could handle the venue's many moving parts.
The Challenge
When Matt started at New Century Kitchen, he had never used Toast before. He had used a number of other POS systems, but he found that they all had similar problems. Most systems either had a good front-of-house interface or good back-of-house reporting, but rarely both. They also lacked the flexibility to adapt to a unique operation like New Century Kitchen, which has multiple food vendors, different menus, and a separate gig venue.
The Solution: Unbelievable precision, all in one place
For Matt, Toast’s all-in-one platform has provided the perfect solution. The system is intuitive and easy to use, with a simple, color-coded display that makes it easy to find what you need. It’s also incredibly flexible and customizable, allowing Matt to set up different menus, turn vendors on and off, and manage different revenue centers all from a single system. The onboarding process for new staff is seamless. The system's back-end provides in-depth reporting that is tailored for operators.
The Results: Data-driven decisions in real time
Matt’s favorite feature is the hourly sales breakdown, which is always available on his phone. For a venue with a variable audience and many different events, this data is critical for making smart staffing and operational decisions. The system also allows Matt to easily separate data from the different parts of the business without having to "dig through lots of figures". For Matt, Toast is intuitive, customizable, and thorough.
